First Baltimore Boxing Death

First Baltimore Death in the Ring - Charlie Holman -

Tragedy struck on September 04, 1924.  Lew Mayrs learned that the game of Boxing has two faces.  Lew and Charlie were pals.  They trained in the same gym and both shared dreams of one day winning a championship.  Charlie won the first 7 rounds, but in the 8th, Mayrs exploded (like) a stick of dynamite in Charlie's face that drew blood.  The tide (had) turned.

In the 12th and last round, Charlie was knocked down, got up and crumpled to the ground - never to regain consciousness.  His wife, who was ringside, had thrown in the towel.  Her efforts were in vain.
